Must be Christmas Bunting Kit designed by Marg Low
I (Anny Patches on Instagram @theneedleworkersbarn ) was very excited to receive my Kit from Poppy Patch for ‘Must be Christmas Bunting’ by Marg Low Designs
The kit includes everything you need, the pattern, hanky linen for the embroidery and iron on interfacing to back the hanky linen. Calico to back the completed bunting flags and to place the flags on, fabric for the tape, a charm pack called ‘Roselyn‘ by Minick and Simpson for Moda and Cosmo seasons variegated thread.
The patchwork flags are made by cutting fabric shapes and layering them together using the template in the pattern to create a patchwork, the pieces are then secured using a variety of embroidery stitches .
Having a charm pack included in the kit gives a wonderful selection of fabrics to choose from.
I had some foundation paper in my stash so I chose to piece the flags using foundation paper piecing however If you’ve never tried this, Marg Lows technique of cutting out the fabric shapes using a template, layering and pinning the fabrics is very easy to follow (place on 1/2 0f the calico provided, save the rest for backing)
Here is the patchwork bunting with the fabric layers in place, I’ve used a variety of stitches such as running stitch, cross stitch and blanket stitch . The pattern includes full colour instructions for all the embroidery stitches required.
I transferred the embroidery designs onto hanky linen using a frixion pen which is removable with heat.
The Cosmo seasons thread gives a wonderful effect to the embroidery which complements the fabric in the charm pack
The embroidery design is an A-Z of christmas which is really beautiful
Once the embroidery is complete I can sew this and the patchwork flags to the calico included in the kit. Using the Long piece of Roselyn fabric provided I cut this into strips according to the pattern instructions and used this for the bunting tape.
This has been a really enjoyable project to sew, the instructions are easy to follow and the finished bunting is stunning. I’m delighted with this and it’s going to look fantastic at Christmas.
