Traditional Bear Making Workshop with Jacqueline’s Bears
On Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th April – Two Day Workshop – 10am until 4pm – £200 – £100 per day – (This workshop can be paid in instalments, please call for further information) – A 2-day traditional bear making workshop with Jacqueline from Jacqueline’s Bears. Meet and make Nico, a traditional handmade bear. Nico is a 1020’s style bear made using Steiff mohair, fully movable cotter pin joints, glass eyes and an embroidered snout. Nico has plastic pellets in his tummy and is stuffed with polyester stuffing. Nico is one of the Bramble Wood bears from Jacqueline’s Bears designer collections. Bramble Wood bears are medium sized bruins who enjoy human company and the good things in life like silk waistcoats. Nico is approximately 23cm high when standing and 17cm when sitting. We won’t be making silk waistcoats during this workshop, but it’s always a possibility for another time.
What’s included:
2 days tuition by Jacqueline, taking you through the process of bear making step-by-step. You will learn the dynamics of cutting and hand stitching mohair. Be taught all the stitches used in bear making and how to insert glass eyes and cotter pin joints. You’ll be taught how to sculpt your bears head as you stuff and hand stitch your bears snout. And much more …
Requirements:
*The kit for Nico can be purchased from Jacqueline for the special price of £49, on the first day of the workshop*
Everything you need to make Nico will be in your kit apart from the Polyester stuffing. You will need about the size of a medium cushion. The mohair colour in the kits can vary due to suppliers’ availability. This is a natural product. However, be assured that Jacqueline only uses the best, super soft, multi directional, Stieff mohair for her Nico kits.
All specialist tools and bear making equipment will be available for use. You should be able to complete your bear in 2 days. However, should you not Jacqueline will have demonstrated the process in full. You will also receive a copy of your bear pattern and a comprehensive booklet of instructions.
*Please note that images above are all Jacqueline’s bears and are listed for inspiration*
Suitable for:
Adults. Due to the multi directional mohair used to make Nico this workshop is suitable for all levels from complete beginners to those more experienced bear makers. But we do recommend some basic sewing skills. Please note: that due some materials Nico is a collector bear, not a toy.
