Summer Street Scene Project Bag with Cathy from Dear Emma Designs

Sunday 25th April 2027  – 10am – 4pm – £85 – Would you like to design and make your very own mountain street project bag?

To give you a head start and to inspire you, I have designed a limited edition, mountain inspired background panel. Enjoy designing your own busy street scene using snippets of fabric and lots of imagination. For those of us who need a little extra help, I also provide templates. Experience in free-motion machine embroidery and raw edge applique will be helpful but not a requirement.

I can provide you with everything you need to create your scene but please feel free to bring along any special fabrics you’d like to incorporate into your design. Please note that this is an extensive project and not designed to be completed in one day. However, an instruction booklet will be provided for you to finish it at your own pace.
The completed project bag measures 27cm tall x 20cm diameter, has two carrying handles, a drawstring fastening (optional) and an internal pocket. It’s a lovely size to hold your projects in and can be used for crochet, knitting, sewing projects whilst on the move.
A kit (£25) can be provided for this workshop and will need to be paid on the day to Cathy. It will include A printed background panel, A4 colour instruction book, ticking for lining, handles and internal pocket, interfacing, cord, a small selection of fabric to create your street scene.

Requirements list:

Sewing machine – All students must provide their own, fully functioning sewing machine capable of free motion machine embroidery, including the appropriate darning foot. Please note: A darning foot does not usually come as standard with your machine and often has to be bought separately. I will not be able to mend or assist in mending any faulty sewing machines. This is the responsibility of the individual student.

*Sewing machine needle – Please ensure that you have a 90/14 (that’s a medium weight) sewing machine needle for your machine plus a spare.

(Please ensure that you have practiced free-motion on your own sewing machine to be confident that it will be suitable for this workshop).

*Threads – Please bring a dark colour thread to practice free-motion embroidery with. Depending on your chosen fabrics, please bring a small selection of thread colours. I will bring mine for you to use also.

*Fabrics – Please bring along any fabric to create your street scene. Plain or small print cotton fabrics are best. There will be a limited variety of fabric as part of your kit but if you have a particular favourite fabric please bring that along.
