Secret Curves Quilt Workshop with Janet Goddard

Saturday 16th January  – 10am – 4pm – £50 – Stitch a quilt where you create the illusion of curved piecing when in fact there is not a curved seam to be stitched. The quilt is machine pieced with a small amount of foundation paper piecing and consists of two blocks which when combined create an optical illusion. It is fat quarter friendly.

I have made my quilt using fabrics in a red/green colourway but I do think it would work in most combinations or in scraps.

Requirements:

The requirements listed below are sufficient to make a quilt measuring approx. 50 ½  x 50 ½in.

*1 ¾m light background fabric

*8/9 fat quarters red fabric for the blocks (or to your choice)

*1 fat quarter solid red for the block centres (or to your choice)

*½ m green fabric for the stepping stones (or to your choice)

*½ m fabric for the outer border

*Neutral thread for piecing

*Rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat (if you have a small square ruler it is really handy for trimming blocks)

Sewing machine (1/4 in piecing/patchwork foot if you have one)

*Usual sewing equipment including a marking pen/pencil for light and dark fabrics, scissors for cutting paper

Students will be provided with  foundation paper patterns for four blocks for the stepping stones block and a master for photocopying for further blocks.

To finish the quilt but not needed on the day:

*Fabric for the binding or use left over fabrics to make a scrappy binding.

*Wadding 54 x 54in

*Backing fabric 54 x 54in
