Monthly Skill Builder Patchwork Class making Medallion Quilt with Janet Goddard

(This is a monthly class that continues on mostly the 4th Friday of each month for six months)

THERE WILL BE A NEW QUILT STARTING ON FRIDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER (This will be a Japanese inspired quilt called ‘A Taste of the Orient’, please see photographs and description below). This is full for September but please contact to go on the waiting list.

This class has started and is the last one for the Medallion Quilt

Friday 25th August – 10am – 3.30pm – £39 – for each month – This class is designed for those wanting to improve their skills. Stitch a beautiful medallion style quilt which grows from the centre outwards. It has been fun designing this quilt and watching it grow as each row was added. I have incorporated a number of different techniques in this workshop including some quick machine piecing techniques and some that are not so quick, curved piecing and machine applique.

I have made my quilt in ice cream colours but I think it would work with most fabric combinations.

Students need to be able to use a rotary cutter and stitch an accurate ¼” seam.

Requirements:

The requirements listed below are sufficient to make a quilt measuring approx. 68 ½  x 68 ½ in.

*1 ¾  m light background fabric

*3m of fabric. This can include fat quarters and half metres. (I used four green, four orange, three pink and one multi coloured fabric)

*1 m fusible webbing (heatnbond or similar)

*1 A4 sheet of template plastic

*Neutral thread for piecing, thread to match fabrics for the applique

*Rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat

Sewing machine (piecing and applique foot)

Usual sewing equipment

To finish the quilt but not needed until the end:

*12 in fabric for the inner border

*¾ m fabric for the outer border

*15in fabric for the binding

*Wadding 72 x 72in

*Backing fabric 72 x 72in

*Can be purchased at Poppy Patch

A Taste of the Orient Quilt starting on Friday 25th September and will run for six months

This is a machine pieced and applique a quilt with a Japanese flavour. A number of blocks will be taught including techniques for piecing, applique and foundation piecing. The quilt can be stitched in Japanese or Oriental type fabrics or made entirely from other fabric types. There is scope for personalising some of the blocks with alternative designs also.
