Introduction to Watercolour Workshop with Justine

Saturday 18th July  – 10am – 4pm – £50 – Introduction to Watercolour Sketching

Whether you’re completely new to painting or haven’t picked up a brush in years, this is a gentle space to begin, especially if you’ve ever thought, “I can’t draw,/paint” but quietly wanted to try anyway. You don’t need experience, just curiosity and a willingness to have a go.
I am a local artist who paints sketchy, light-filled paintings that are inspired by everyday moments, coastal scenes, and emotional connection. I work loosely with ink and watercolour, favouring freedom over perfection.
My workshops are gentle, down-to-earth, and designed to help people reconnect with their creativity in a relaxed, supportive space. Please have a look at my website to get an idea of me justinetrasler.co.uk

What the Day Looks Like

Welcome & Warm-Up
Settle in, meet the group, and get familiar with your materials. A relaxed introduction to the tools and techniques we’ll be using throughout the day

First Demo: A Simple Scene

I will sketch a light, simple scene, using ink pen and watercolours.

Your Turn: Gentle Painting Time

Using the same scene or your own version of it, you’ll have time to explore at your own pace, with gentle support and encouragement throughout.

Lunch Break A chance to relax, chat, and take in the barn surroundings.

 Personal Sketching Time
In the afternoon, we’ll invite you to sketch from your own photo something meaningful to you. I  will be on hand to support with ideas, techniques, and colour mixing.

Final Touches & Optional Sharing
Working together to bring your piece to life, add your final splashes of colour and if you’d like to, share your work with the group (no pressure, just encouragement!).

Wrap-Up & Reflections
A time for questions, reflections, and tips on where to go next with your painting journey.

Feel free to bring your own materials, if you have them. I would suggest a good start would be a couple of sheets of watercolour 140lb so that it holds water well. A permanent ink fine liner pen Uni-ball are great and a pencil. A watercolour brush, size 6 is a good inbetween size. A container to hold water, something to mix the paints in such as a small palette or saucer,  and a small set of watercolour paints.

If you don’t have your own materials then I have put together The Sketching Starter Pack which will include all the materials you’ll need for the day for £12 which includes:

  • A watercolour brush
  • A fine liner pen & pencil
  • A basic student-quality watercolour set
  • Three sheets of watercolour paper

Please reserve one in advance when booking.
