Fabric Collage & Stitch workshop with Suzette Smart

Saturday 10th October  – 10am – 4pm – £99 – Create a unique textile piece using fabric collage combined with hand stitching, free machine stitching, or a mix of both. You’ll explore how to layer and mix fabric and paper to create a decorative jug motif – the tutor will demonstrate techniques and guide you through the process step by step.

You can choose from a selection of jug templates, or you’re welcome to draw your own design if you prefer something more personal. There will be plenty of inspiration available, including ideas for adding Autumnal elements such as honesty and berries, or motifs inspired by a summer garden.

One of the sample pieces includes a vintage charm, and you might like to bring along one of your own if you’d like to incorporate it into your work.

This relaxed and creative workshop is suitable for all levels, whether you enjoy hand stitching, free machine embroidery, or combining the two. The tutor will provide templates, demonstrations, and lots of sample pieces to spark ideas and support you throughout the session.

Requirements for students

*Medium weight fabric for the background. I have samples measuring approx 34 x 23cm and 28 x 30cm as a guideline (Poppy Patch have 100% cotton patchwork fabric only for sale).

• Lightweight fabrics / lace for collage

*Bondaweb

• Pencil

*Wadding to back work for hand stitching

*Hand sewing kit with threads, scissors etc

• Sewing machine with freehand foot and feed dogs down (if using)

• You may wish to include an old charm or button

• Old paper to include in jug collage. There will be some available to use.
