GAIL PAN IS COMING FROM AUSTRALIA

Saturday 27th JulyTWO SPACES HAVE BECOME AVAILABLE PLEASE – Gail Pan is coming all the way from Australia to teach at Poppy Patch. If you are a regular to the shop you know that we stock all of her patterns and have done for some time. I have made one of her bags and it is regularly in the shop attached to Mary!!! Her work is delightful. Gail lives on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia, at the foot of the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. Growing up in a home where sewing was always an important part of her life, it was only natural that she tried every craft there was! She has always had some kind of project in the works(sound familar)!

When her kids were little she made their clothes, and when they got too old for that, she moved on to patchwork. Her design business was born out of her habit of always adapting whatever she was working on until it becomes a new design altogether. In 2003, at the encouragement of some friends who were opening their own patchwork business, she began to design and release her own patterns and has been designing ever since! Gail teaches all over the world and gets great satisfaction and enjoyment from sharing her love of needle and thread.

There are only fourteen places available on each day. Her classes will be running from 10-5pm which includes an hour at the beginning for a show and tell of from Gail’s and a few freebies. There will be a chance to ask questions too.
The photographs below show three different patterns from which you choose one to make on the day
(the others are available to purchase if you so wish). The choices are Stitching makes my Heart Happy Sewing folder OR Birds of a Feather Tablerunner OR a Merry Christmas Tree Cushion.

One day course is £75 which includes your one pattern to make on the day, gift bag and refreshments (cake included). If you book both days the cost is £140.

Creative Machine Embroidery With Abigail Mill

Saturday 5th October – 10 – 4pm – £50 – On the morning Abbi will run through the basics of machine embroidery and get you set up on your machine ready to ’draw in sewing’. You will need to bring along your own sewing machine, with your sewing box with threads, pins, scissors etc. You will also need to make sure that your sewing machine can be converted to ’Free motion machining’ by using a dawning food and lowering the feed dogs. I will run through exercises on machine tension, working with various threads, working with mixed fabrics, appliqué techniques, and preparation of fabrics for your final piece.

In the afternoon this is where the fun begins! Armed with the knowledge of the mornings sampling, this day is all about self development. The aim is to leave with a finished piece of embroidery that reflects your own style and colour palette. In order to do this you will need to be inspired by your own source materials. You will need to bring with you any photographs, post cards, sketches or greetings cards with inspiring imagery. I would also encourage you to bring along your collections of fabrics and trimmings for that personal touch.

If you would like to purchase a background piece they will be from £2-4 on the day or Abbi will bring a selection of her kits for you to purchase if you do not wish to do your own thing.

My needle and thread are my drawing tools that allow me to create my scenes and stories directly in and on to my chosen fabrics and papers. I use various embroidery flosses combined with favourite vintage threads to illustrate my chosen imagery and words directly on to and in to my selected and usually pre-used fabrics, papers and found objects”.

Today’s workshop will be a general embroidery and appliqué day, covering all of Jessie’s techniques, creating your own story using her style of appliqué and embroidery. Stitched text and lettering will also be covered. You can purchase a kit from Jessie at an additional cost of £10. They would include hand cut fabric appliqué shapes. A linen backing fabric and some assorted fabric scraps plus she will bring all my own embroidery flosses and other embroidery threads for all participants to use during the workshop.
